Union Minister Prakash Javadekar to attend 15th meeting of Governing Council of SACEP in Dhaka
Environment, Forest & Climate Change and Information & Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar will attend the 15th meeting of the Governing Council of South Asia Co-operative Environment Programme (SACEP) in Dhaka.
The SACEP is an inter-governmental organization which was established in 1982.
Its member countries Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka aim to promote and support protection, management and enhancement of the environment in the region.
The 14th meeting of the SACEP Governing Council was held in March last year in Colombo.
PM Modi inaugurates 5th India International Science Festival 2019 in Kolkata
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 5th edition of India International Science Festival (IISF) 2019 through video conferencing in Kolkata.
The four-day science festival, being organized from November 5-8 , aims to build a strategy for inclusive advancement of Science and Technology
The Theme for this year’s festival is “RISEN India – Research, Innovation, and Science Empowering the Nation.
The third edition of IISF 2017 was held in Chennai. The fourth edition of IISF was held in Lucknow.
Mansukh Mandaviya to inaugurate BIMSTEC Ports Conclave
The Minister of State (I/C) for Shipping Shri Mansukh Mandaviya is to inaugurate the first-ever BIMSTEC Ports’ Conclave at Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh.
The conclave is to be held on 7-8 November 2019.
Aim: The Conclave aims to explore the possibility of increasing economic cooperation by furthering EXIM trade and coastal shipping.
Indian Railways introduced Uttam Rake
Indian Railways celebrated the occasion of 69th Foundation Day of Western Railway on 5 November 2019.
During the occasion, Indian Railways introduced Uttam Rake in its inaugural run as Ladies Special local train from Churchgate to Virar.
Uttam rake facilitates advanced features and improved interiors to provide more comfort for Mumbaikars.
Uttam rake will run on its normal services from 6 November 2019 with ten services a day.
MNRE issued advisory of additional DC capacity of solar PV power plants
Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE) issued an advisory and clarified that until the solar PV power plant is in accordance with the contracted AC capacity and meets the range of energy supply based on Capacity Utilisation Factor (CUF) requirements.
It was issued by R K Singh, Minister of State (I/C) for Power, New and Renewable Energy.
It stated that the design and installation of solar capacity on the DC side should be left to the generator or developer.
DRDO’s Igniter Complex at HEMRL, Pune
Defence Research & Development Organisation’s (DRDO) Igniter complex was recently inaugurated at the High Energy Materials Research Laboratory (HEMRL) in Pune.
This ignition centre consists of various facilities like Planetary Mixer, Pelleting Machine, Granulating Machine and Sieve Shaker.
The ignition process is the utmost and highly critical phase in the ignition chain of Rocket motor.
Andhra Pradesh State to introduce English medium in govt. school
Andhra Pradesh state government is to introduce English medium from standard first to standard eight in government schools from the next academic year.
It was announced by the Andhra Pradesh School Education Department. The move aims to revive the English Language Teaching Centers and District English Centers (DECs) and relocate them to District Institutes for Education and Training (DIETs).

5 Cr fine on Mehsana Urban Co-operative Bank
The reserve bank of India has imposed a penalty of Rs. 5 cr on Gujarat based Mehsana Urban Co-operative Bank for violating rules.
It was said in RBI’s notice that loans and advances were sanctioned to the directors, relatives and firms/concerns in which they are interested.
RBI found that Master Directions on ‘Know Your Customer (KYC) were not followed by the Mehsana Urban Co-operative Bank.

Kolkata students create Guinness World Record
On the first day of India International Science Festival (IISF), 2019 the Guinness World Record for the largest astrophysics lesson (45 minutes) and assembly of spectroscopes was successfully achieved.
About 1598 students participated in the effort. This year’s theme is – RISEN India –Research, Innovation and Science Empowering the Nation.
Spectroscopes are generally used by the astronomers to know details like chemical composition, temperature etc. of celestial objects millions of light-years away from the earth.

Voyager 2 sent back its first message from ISM
The US space agency reported that NASA’s Voyager 2 spacecraft had crossed the boundary that marks the edge of the Sun’s realm and the start of the interstellar space.
By achieving this feat, Voyager 2 became the second human-made object to journey out of the Sun’s influence after Voyager 1’s solar exit in 2012.
Voyager 2 has sent the most detailed look at the edge of the solar system.
Sun Pharma pacts with AstraZeneca to develop oncology products for China
Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd entered into a licensing agreement with AstraZeneca UK Ltd.
The partnership aims to introduce new infusion oncology products in China.
It aims to introduce specialty and generics products in the China market and the licensing agreement.
Agreement: As per the agreement, Sun Pharma will be responsible for the development, regulatory filings and manufacturing the products.
